Official: Charlotte FC acquire forward Daniel Rios in trade with Nashville SC

The energy they bring even before the match begins to the very last whistle is contagious, and Ríos says that the players feed off of it. Ríos ranked this match as one of the top three best games of his career and went as far as to say that it probably tops the list. However, it hasn’t been all rainbows and sunshine for the Club but the team is still believing and fighting until the very end.

The outcome prevented the Union ( , 64 points) from clinching the Eastern Conference title. Philadelphia has a home game Oct. 9 against Toronto to conclude the regular season. The MLS Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting.

Charlotte FC Sells Forward Daniel Rios to C.D. Guadalajara

It hasn’t been an easy season, but we are still fighting, we still believe and I’m so happy that I was able to score. With Ríos’ departure, Charlotte retain Andre Shinyashiki and Karol Swiderski as options at center forward. They’re also close to formally adding Enzo Copetti from Argentina’s Racing Club, as reported by MLSsoccer.com’s Tom Bogert. Rios returns to Liga MX, where he originally developed in the Chivas academy, after three seasons in MLS.

Ríos believes that scoring that first goal was a huge confidence boost for the team leading into the game against the New England Revolution. The 2024 Atlanta United FC season is the eighth season of Atlanta United FC's existence, and the sixteenth year that a professional soccer club from Atlanta, Georgia competing in the top division of American soccer. Atlanta United will play their home games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Somone who has started the season in fine form has been goalkeeper, Kristijan Kahlina, who has produced crucial saves in the opening games of the season. We are all trying to understand each other, but that only comes with minutes on the pitch. Of course, if we can win games and earn points during this process, that’s the most ideal thing, but it’s part of the process.

With their win over Philadelphia, Charlotte become the third expansion team since 2005 to win double-digit games at home in their first season (Atlanta United in 2017 and CF Montréal in 2012). The Crown are just the third expansion team, excluding the shootout era, to win at least 13 games in their inaugural season (Atlanta United and LAFC). Additionally, Charlotte’s 41 points are the most by an expansion team since LAFC’s 57 in 2018. CHARLOTTE, NC (Friday, February 25, 2022) – Charlotte FC today announced the Club has acquired forward Daniel Ríos from Nashville SC in exchange for $350,000 in 2022 GAM with an additional $150,000 in 2023 GAM if certain incentives are met. “He’s a guy that I’ve been really impressed with, the last three matches he has played fantastic...

They came into the match even on points (64) with LAFC and eager for three more in their pursuit of the Supporters Shield, which goes to the team with the most at the end of the regular season. Despite taking five corner kicks, Philadelphia didn't have many scoring chances. Additionally, Nashville SC will receive 10% of any future transfer fee outside of Major League Soccer. “I think we are doing on the field what the fans expect from us.

It got even better for Charlotte two minutes into added time when McKinze Gaines took a flicked pass from Santos down the right and put it across the goalmouth where Rios claimed his fourth goal. When tested, Sisniega held his ground, as did the men in front, deflecting or blocking Union incursions. Even then, this was against the best Philadelphia story to date since the club’s debut in 2010. The Union already had two more wins (18) than their top season to date, which was 16 in 2019 when they finished third in the East.

Charlotte FC's Daniel Ríos named Week 33 Continental Player of the Week

Another question regards who the backup goalkeeper would be if Kahlina cannot play. In the 72nd minute, Charlotte won a penalty kick when Nuno Santos’ shot, off a Jozwiak pass, was blocked by the outstretched arm of Kai Wagner. Rios calmly placed it inside the left post to give him Charlotte’s first hat trick and a 3-0 lead.

CHARLOTTE – Interim head coach Christian Lattanzio put his trust in Daniel Ríos once again as the Mexican striker made his fourth straight start. Ríos’s paid back his coach’s trust in him with a remarkable four-goal performance which extended Charlotte FC’s winning streak to three in a row. After three losses to start the season, the Crown had won their last two, their first two, at home before the 0-2 reality check in Pennsylvania.

He gives head coach Miguel Angel Ramirez another option through the center, alongside Designated Player Karol Swiderski and U22 Initiative signing Vinicius Mello. The funds break down as $350,000 in 2022 GAM with an additional $150,000 in 2023 GAM if certain incentives are met. That means Lattanzio will have to sort out who will partner with Anton Walkes in central defense as Guzman Corujo, who started that game is out for the season due to injury and Christian Makoun is no longer with the team. Defenders Adilson Malanda and Nathan Byrne were not on the roster then, nor was midfielder Nuno Santos. It was a comprehensive and complete victory for the Crown who will face the Columbus Crew on Oct. 5 in continuance of the home match that was abandoned due to persistent lightning storms on July 30.

Charlotte are entering their first full season under head coach Christian Lattanzio. They missed the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs as a first-year club, slotting ninth in the Eastern Conference table. “It was a pleasure to see Dani’s skills evolve throughout the year and make a strong impact on the field late in the season, which is a testament to the type of player development we’re building at Charlotte FC,” sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a release.

17 Mind-Blowing Pancakes in Los Angeles, 2019 Edition Eater LA

the grain house

The Saturday and Sunday morning lines are no joke, but is worth the wait after one bite of these cakey monstrosities. There’s nothing quite like the quaint beach bungalow-turned pancake house Uncle Bill’s. The Manhattan Beach mainstay is quite the local hangout, with serious weekend lines. But when pancakes come with ocean views, who can really complain.

Cheese Pizza

I was down the street at the Catch One, looked at Google for an open restaurant. The service was very good, vibe was good, and the food was very very good. 100% will come back here again, blown away how good this was!! Blackberry, Strawberry, blueberry, cherry spread topped with whipped cream. Waffle topped with berries, blackberry spread, whipped cream and powder sugar.

Playa Provisions is the third endeavor for Top Chef Winner Brooke Williamson and husband Nick Roberts. The unique model includes four different restaurant concepts nestled within one 7,000-square foot, beach side location. For dinner, Dockside exemplifies both Brooke and Nick’s love for California coastal cuisine at an intimate dining room and beach side patio. After dinner stop by Small Batch for a pint of house made ice cream, or sneak into the back and enjoy some darker spirits at Grain Whiskey Bar. Inspired by the city's "country marts," the four separate, yet cohesive dining experiences provide a taste for everyone.

We’ll get into more specifics below, but let’s talk about all the pieces you’ll need to have an effective farm in Manor Lords. Joanna Gaines’s KitchenAid stand mixer collaboration first debuted back in 2020. Fitting with the Fixer Upper star's brand aesthetic, her stand mixer iteration is coated in a soothing earth tone and a matte finish. Long considered one of the best pancakes in town, the incredible griddle produces some of the crispiest, fluffiest pancakes you’ve ever tried. The Griddle is the king of outrageous, Frisbee-sized pancakes. The menu has nearly twenty varieties of cardiac arrest-inducing options, from the Black Magic filled with crushed Oreos to the Saturday Morning Fever with Bailey’s and Kahlua batter.

In this crafty day and age, you don't have to stretch your budget for a high-end dresser. This no-fuss 24/7 diner opened back in 1924, and has probably been serving these straightforward buttermilk pancakes since its opening day. There’s not much that needs to be said about these flapjacks – eating them at the restaurant’s worn counter just feels right. Loaded with more butter than one really wants to think about, Jon & Vinny’s has made itself a serious contender for best pancakes in LA. They’re as straightforward as they get with light, fluffy buttermilk pancakes served with the usual accoutrements of maple syrup, a generous helping of salted butter and berries. Great customer service, I will only order leather from the hide house from now on. Brown rice, beans, daily greens, land and sea vegetable, pressed salad and one dressing, sauce.

I like that they do not gouge on shipping costs like most suppliers. First time wholesale customers will see their pricing adjusted after the order is submitted. Now retired from the entertainment business, the timeless Higgins/Verbeck/Hirsch Mansion and its incredible story live on. After the Great Depression, the home fell into disrepair over a half century of neglect. During this time, it was used as a retirement home for nuns, a mission, an office, and a rooming house for young aspiring actors. In 1924, the home's new owner had the house cut into three sections, lifted onto trucks, and rolled to its current location in Windsor Square.

Our Hard Red and Hard White varieties can’t be beat for baking strength. Baked falafel, hummus, salad, tomatoes and cucumber with a tahni sauce. An array of seasonal organic fresh fruits served with coconut yogurt. What tasks your farm takes on depends on the season — there’s a bit of wiggle room on the dates, but the following is generally true. In the Construction menu, pick Farming and then choose a Field. This will let you place four points to define a plot of farmland.

And the crew is amazing, so knowledgeable, helpful and conscientious! Quality products, awesome staff very knowledgeable of the leather world to guide you to the right leather. Our family has been doing business with The Hide House now for close to 40 years if I'm not mistaken. And I Highly recommend them for All your leather wants and needs.

Mixed greens, avocado, cabbage, red pepper, cherry tomato, toasted in our balsamic vinaigrette. Marinated tempeh, thousand island dressing onions, tomato, melted daiya cheese and sauerkraut on sour dough bread. Tofu egg, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, avocado served with baked potatoes. This means that you’ll only ever have two fields with crops planted — for a total of 0.6 morgen worth of crops. That just so happens to be about how much a family can manage in a year. Meanwhile, you’ll always have one fallow field that’s resetting its fertility.

This airy pancake somewhat reminiscent of a crepe is about the size of your face, and comes with lemon and powdered sugar. We've bought our leather from the Hide House for years and still do. Excellent service and the leather has stayed the same good quality.

This down and dirty family-run restaurant has been serving West LA since 1982. That homey feel comes across in the pancakes, the no-nonsense buttermilk flapjacks that come golden and relatively thick. If it’s classic buttermilk stacks on the radar, old school diners like The Original Pantry fit the bill, and with 24-hour service at that. The City of Angels is also home to some outrageously decadent versions, most notably from West Hollywood’s iconic The Griddle.

Install your new hardware, and your high-end dresser revamp is complete. The vegan and gluten-free pancakes at this Highland Park cafe come with toasted coconut and a dram of Vermont maple syrup. Light, flakey, and topped with fresh berries, the butter won’t be missed. What you will find here is a resource for top quality freshly milled flour, an exploration of wheat, milling and baking, and an unapologetic rejection of the status quo.

We are proud to be open for both lunch and dinner, and we have a full-service bar. Fireside dining is available throughout the restaurant, and we offer seasonal patio dining. With an ambiance dating back to the 18th century, The Grain House offers casual dining in a unique setting.

Whole wheat bread soaked in vanilla soy milk served with fresh fruits. Tofu Egg, Sausage, cheddar cheese with our special sauce on a toasted english muffin. Indulge your senses at one of the best restaurants in Basking Ridge. The Grain House Restaurant at the Olde Mill lnn offers classic American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Hildy Good, once the most prosperous realtor in Wendover, has fallen on hard times following her divorce and family's insistence she go to rehab for alcoholism. Her former assistant, Wendy, also stole her clients while she was in rehab, adding to her problems. Hildy attempts to aid a local family with an autistic child sell their home, so they can move and enroll him in a special school by getting her former boyfriend, Frank, to renovate their home. She renews her relationship with Frank, but the home sale falls through, and she finds out her former clients yet again are stolen by Wendy. In the film’s sharp comic observations, though, and especially its two fine leads, something real and messy sparks to life. The film’s ultimate shift to addiction drama isn’t in itself a problem, but the events that bring Hildy to a devastating point of self-recognition feel like a clutter of contrivances rather than an involving chain of inevitability. Hildy (Sigourney Weaver), a divorced small-town realtor, struggles to feel normal in her day-to-day life. A struggling alcoholic, Hildy constantly spends her days lying and creating excuses to justify her drinking. When her family stages an intervention, she must come to terms with what her drinking is doing to everyone around her. Co-directed by Maya Forbes and Wallace Wolodarsky, this film is based on Ann Leary's novel of the same name.

The company’s investment partners include Reliance Entertainment, Entertainment One (eOne), Alibaba Pictures and Universal Pictures. None of these characters is nearly as richly drawn or interesting as Hildy and Frank, but increasingly, the story turns toward them and others. They feel like contrivances and plot devices, especially in some third-act melodrama that comes out of nowhere and whips the story up into an empty frenzy. It’s so wild, you’ll wonder what’s really happening and what she’s hallucinating.

But the one source of stability in her life comes from Kline’s Frank Getchell, her high school flame and first love. He’s the town’s cantankerous contractor/handyman, and his disheveled appearance and down-to-Earth demeanor would never suggest he’s the richest guy around. Their hesitant fumblings toward rekindling their romance are amusing and sweet—the kind of relationship older audiences don’t get to see often enough in the movies anymore.

A big fish in a small pond, Hildy has long been a highly successful real estate agent in her hometown on Boston’s North Shore. Wealthy investors and corporate interests are moving in, a onetime protégé (Kathryn Erbe, in a thanklessly cartoonish role) has become a cutthroat competitor, and business isn’t what it used to be. Hildy Good, the whip-smart and self-deluding Realtor at the center of The Good House, spends a significant portion of screen time breaking a wall — the fourth one, that is. In lesser hands, such a narrative device could be distracting or downright annoying. But Hildy, an alcoholic who’s pretending to be in recovery, is played by Sigourney Weaver, who makes every exasperated glance, incisive put-down and dissembling excuse absolutely magnetic.

the good house movie cast

And although she’s freshly out of rehab—after an intervention that’s played for laughs in the script from the husband-and-wife directing duo and Thomas Bezucha—being sober is not part of her new identity. The two actors’ previous onscreen pairings include The Ice Storm, Ang Lee’s masterpiece and one of the great films about American suburbia. The Good House has nothing particularly incisive to say about its locale, or even about the business of real estate. Hildy’s success means that she’ll be helping to change her burg into one of those tony destinations filled with second homes and showy estates. There are big questions churning beneath the story, yet even Hildy’s personal turmoil feels somehow too neat.

So much works so well for so long in “The Good House” that it’s frustrating when the film casts its eye elsewhere and begins paying way too much attention to the town’s peripheral figures. Rob Delaney co-stars as the therapist whose office is upstairs from Hildy’s; he’s obviously going through some kind of personal and professional flux of his own. Morena Baccarin is a newcomer, the beautiful wife in a wealthy couple that’s just bought a giant waterfront estate, but everything in her life isn’t as perfect as it appears. Kathryn Erbe is the former protégé of Hildy’s who stole all her clients when she formed her own agency; there’s not much to her beyond icy glances and snobbery.

Wine doesn’t really count as drinking, Sigourney Weaver’s character insists in “The Good House.” She’s not really drinking alone, because the dogs are with her in the kitchen as she pours merlot from her secret stash into a coffee mug. And she’ll be extra careful this time, she promises, so she’s fine to drive into town after downing a few glasses. Hildy Good, a wry New England realtor and descendant of the Salem witches who loves her wine and loves her secrets. Her compartmentalized life starts to unravel as she rekindles an old romance and becomes dangerously entwined in one person’s reckless behavior. In contrast, the local inflection in Frank’s speech expresses his down home lack of pretension; he’s self-sufficient and, unlike Hildy, couldn’t give a damn what people think of him.

Watching Hildy try to keep all the balls in the air is both a source of humor and tension, as the disparity between who she is and who she pretends to be steadily widens. She’s losing clients and dodging phone calls from the Range Rover dealership, asking for her lease payment. That’s all human and true, and Weaver plays it with subtlety and great comic timing.

MovieMeter aims to be the largest, most complete movie archive with reviews and rankings, in the World. It’s a treat to watch her react to the off-the-charts self-involvement of her useless young assistant (a terrifically funny turn by Imogene Forbes Wolodarsky, the directors’ daughter). Unapologetically judgmental and keenly perceptive, Hildy harbors a massive blind spot only when it comes to her own life.

And Beverly D’Angelo breezes in and out as Hildy’s childhood best friend and longtime drinking buddy. Hildy’s narration is wry and wise, sometimes conspiratorial and increasingly contradictory, as she shows us around the charming (and fictional) New England town of Wendover. She’s been the queen bee realtor for decades in this insular hamlet, but all that’s changing as nouveau riche families barge in from nearby Boston. Hildy’s proud of the fact that her family’s been a fixture in Wendover for centuries—dating to the time of the Salem witches, one of whom is her ancestor. (Cue the on-the-nose use of “Season of the Witch,” among the movie’s many perky music choices.) Now divorced (since her husband left her for a man) and infrequently in touch with her grown daughters, Hildy is struggling to determine who she is.

In Weaver’s enthralling performance, though, they have their story’s beating heart. And with Bezucha they’ve crafted some deliriously stinging lines for their star. In a comic drama also featuring Kevin Kline, the 'Alien' star plays a New England real estate agent who understands all her neighbors’ problems but is deep in denial about her own.

My name is Ronnie and it is my goal to bring you the best Southern-inspired recipes, reviews, and restaurants from the South and beyond. To be honest we almost did not go because so many people told us the food was not good but the dessert was. I thought both of our dishes was fantastic!. Ronnie, I've found that restaurants with huge menus are usually not very good.

The Cheesecake Factory is my one exception to that rule. I've loved everything I've ever had there. We don't have one nearby, but I've eaten at various ones while traveling. Two of my favorites are the Chicken Piccata (with mashed potatoes instead of angel hair pasta) and the Pasta Da Vinci.

The Cheesecake Factory is a beautiful restaurant. It reminds me of pictures I have seen of restaurants and buildings in Italy. My wife and I have been trying to eat at The Cheesecake Factory in Charlotte, NC for years. Every time we would try, there would be a long wait.

Dessert

For instance, I ordered Chicken Madeira, one of their specialty dishes. My wife ordered Orange Chicken, an Asian-inspired dish. When you walk into the restaurant, it is truly breathtaking. I do not believe I have ever been to a more beautiful chain restaurant before. We walked up and added our names to the list, It is going to be an hour wait the lady said.

There are also new-to-market additions in Charlotte. One such concept, Puerta, will be opening later this month, paying homage to Mexican food and spirits in Elizabeth. Let’s be honest here, most people come for dessert right? On the way out, they have a huge counter where you can order any type of cheesecake you can imagine. I got Fresh Strawberry Cheesecake and my wife got Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake.

Food items range from hamburgers to southern comfort food, to Asian-inspired dishes. Choose from more than 250 dishes made fresh from scratch every day and more than 40 legendary cheesecakes and desserts. Though not locally based, The Cheesecake Factory is set to open its second Charlotte-area restaurant this month at Birkdale Village in Huntersville. That 2,500-square-foot location will mark the fifth for the brand. Charlotte brewery Resident Culture is also putting its next location in uptown, at The Market at 7th Street. It plans to open that 300-square-foot bar — its third location in Charlotte — this month.

SouthPark Mall

According to The Cheesecake Factory Website, it all started in the 1940s when Evelyn Overton found a recipe in her local Detroit newspaper. This recipe inspired her to make the Original Cheesecake that we all know and love today. Enjoy the high-energy atmosphere seven days a week, serving appetizers, lunch, dinner, late night dining, full bar, Saturday & Sunday brunch, and curbside To-Go service. In a different part of the Charlotte area, local chef Jim Noble just opened his fourth location of Bossy Beulah’s Chicken Shack in Fort Mill. That’s as local franchisees brought the region’s third Slim Chickens to Indian Trail. They really make the best cheesecake but I also have to say the food we ate beforehand was really good as well.

Restaurant Bites: The Cheesecake Factory to open, SouthPark spots closing

We stood up next to the wall and a nice couple walked up and handed us their pager. They said you will only have a five-minute wait. So we waited for about five minutes and sure enough, they called us back.

The People’s Market, for starters, is teeing up its second location in Charlotte about a year after making a revival in the Elizabeth neighborhood. The Cheesecake Factory menu features more than 200 menu selections made fresh each day. The Cheesecake Factory doesn’t just serve cheesecake. The menu is very diverse and should offer something to please even the strictest palate.

Eventually, they moved to Los Angeles and gave the business one more shot. It was a success and she was now selling her famous cheesecakes to restaurants all over Los Angeles. Charlotte wasn’t without its restaurant closures in July either. Bonterra closed in SouthPark late last month, ending its 24-year run in Charlotte. And Dogwood Southern Table & Bar, also in SouthPark, will close in August, with celebrity chef David Burke buying its lease and assets to open a new concept there.

CATERING

Some of the specialties on the menu are kibbeh, which are crisply fried beef and wheat shells stuffed with more juicy ground beef with pine nuts and spices; grilled spiced leg of lamb shawarma; braised lamb shanks; and beef kafta kabobs – a special hand formed, grilled mixture of ground beef with herbs and spices. Also on the menu are other kabobs and classics such as stuffed grape leaves, tabbouleh salad, falafel and lentil soup. Merguez, a spicy North African sausage made with beef and lamb is also offered here. Also on the menu are a wide variety of kebabs, gyro and chicken shawarma sandwiches, salads including fatoush with fried pita chips, hummus, falafel and more. Hummus and Lubia green beans with tomatoes are also offered. Flame-lashed meats may be the restaurant’s specialty, but its rice dishes deserve just as much adoration.

From vibrant salads and mediterranean kabobs bursting with fresh ingredients. House of Kabob cooks with self-assurance, its name a declaration of the restaurant’s dominion over all things skewered. Kebabs (the preferred spelling) do indeed fare well, gobbets of beef, lamb or chicken charred in a primal, pleasing way. The koobideh kebab — ground beef formed into a torpedo — is the juicy ideal of what a kebab can be, the meat made almost silken amid the flames. Evenings are lively at House of Kabob — diners finally getting a chance to thumb through the day’s paper, friends catching up over piles of rice — but afternoons are the restaurant’s best and busiest. When those programmers and engineers eventually land seats, they happily lunch on sandwiches swaddled in sheets of lavash and slightly downsized kebabs.

You get the feeling they’ll be back to eat it all again tomorrow. The lunch line at House of Kabob in Lake Forest curls out the door, the neck of each prospective diner craned toward the kitchen. It’s a crowd mostly of baby-faced workers from nearby tech firms waiting with ID cards still dangling from their company-issued lanyards.

They’re complete meals that can easily feed two, huge dinners accompanied by a leg of chicken or a crusty kebab. Harvested primarily in Iran from thorny evergreen shrubs, the Tic Tac-sized berries stain the rice a rosy pink, dotting the zereshk polo like tiny ruby ornaments. The barberries impart a tartness more pronounced than a whole bottle of pomegranate juice. Elevate your next event with Rice Catering, where culinary excellence meets seamless service. The best places to eat and drink in L.A. this month, according to our food writers

It's Arab American Heritage Month. Where can you find Arabian food around Evansville?

Fesenjon is similarly popular, hunks of chicken submerged in a walnut-thickened, pomegranate-sweetened sauce so good you’ll want to spoon it onto just about everything. All of these areas have their own styles of cuisine, and note that there are many countries near Arabian areas including Turkey, Iran (Persia) and Afghanistan that are not Arabic and, while there may be some overlapping in cuisine, have distinct cultures and languages. Rice's numbers in college may not be eye-catching, but his senior year at USC showcased his potential. With his size, skillset, and ability to high-point the ball, he could become Herbert's go-to receiver. Playing alongside an elite quarterback and a brilliant coaching staff like the Chargers have, Rice has all the tools to be an elite playmaker in the NFL.

House of Gucci movie review & film summary 2021

jared leto house of gucci

LETO When I shot Dallas Buyers Club, I remember going somewhere and having people treat me completely differently. To not be recognized by your fellow actors was a whole other level — Jeremy Irons told me he didn’t realize it was me in our first scene. The other movie was Scarface, funnily enough.

Then there’s Aldo’s son, Paolo, a frustrated designer who dresses in things like lavender corduroy suits. Then Maurizio introduces Patrizia to his father, the elegant and formidable Rodolfo (Jeremy Irons), once a minor screen actor, now a vampirish tycoon with Klimt’s “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer” hanging on the wall of his parlor. He’s the lordly co-owner and patriarch of the Gucci brand; he can’t conceive that his only son would wed someone who is this beneath him. Maurizio, however, wins the audience’s admiration for standing by his romantic convictions. He marries Patrizia (to the tune of George Michael’s “Faith”), even as his father cuts him out of the family fortune. House of Gucci, released by United Artists Releasing, is the highest grossing drama during the pandemic, making close to $52M stateside and $145M WW.

It’s not fair to call these performances dull, as they’re only mimicking the film’s portrayal of these real-life figures, but it’s also hard to call them incredible or entertaining at times. I’d argue that if we didn’t have Jared Leto’s performance as Paolo Gucci in House of Gucci, the movie would be panned for being overly heavy-handed and frankly not fun to watch. House of Gucci is about an obscenely rich family, and how greed, betrayal and murder ultimately led to their ousting from the company that bears their name. It’s incredibly dark, to the point it’s not all that fun to witness.

You’re in!

He made me shake with fear, but it was beautiful.

Paolo Gucci died from heart and kidney failure at the age of 64, a few months after the murder of his cousin, Maurizio. Also in the mix is Aldo’s son Paolo, brought to life by Jared Leto, whose outrageous (and extremely fun) gaudiness single-handedly earns the aforesaid “rock concert” analogy. Leto’s approach to the role instantly proves apt for Paolo, an incompetent businessman wannabe and an aspiring fashion designer with little taste and even less talent.

Casting

After an argument between Maurizio and Patrizia, he decides he is tired of his wife's influence on himself and the company. He orders his wife and daughter to return to Italy and begins an affair with Paola, which Pina seemingly senses. Aldo introduces Patrizia to his eccentric son Paolo, who aspires to be a designer within Gucci despite his lack of talent. Aldo helps Maurizio and a terminally ill Rodolfo reconcile shortly before the latter's death.

We see Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci go from lovers who didn’t give a damn about fortune to it being the only thing that defines them. It’s captivating to watch, but by the end, there’s not a damn thing likable about these two, and it’s not like the rest of the Gucci family is portrayed any better. Like Scott’s 2017 Getty family drama All the Money in the World, House of Gucci does a solid job of evoking its recent-history milieu, boasting a beige and brown palette that reeks of nicotine and caffeine, with occasional bursts of reportage-style monochrome. Musically, it’s a cheesy jukebox treat, Pavarotti and Tracy Chapman rubbing shoulders with Caterina Caselli and Blondie, and a wedding played out to the strains of George Michael’s Faith. That’s certainly how Jeremy Irons’s increasingly vampiric Rodolfo sees her when he disowns his son for marrying into a family of “truck drivers!

Cast

Rodolfo writes Maurizio back into his will but fails to sign the document attesting him the 50% interest in Gucci shares before he dies, so Patrizia forges Rodolfo's signature on Rodolfo's updated testament. "Subtlety is the hardest," the actor says. "Silence is the most important note you can play. We're all made up of those nuances. I don't want to give away all of my secrets—I have to keep some for myself." And we'll keep trying to figure it all out, wherever the next chestnut falls. "It's not a good thing to do to your body," he says, but it was helpful going out in public with a menacing demeanor, weird enough that people "recoiled" from him. "It was a very dark piece of material, at a time when I was interested in that sort of thing," he recalls.

Leto, when he arrived on set, even fooled co-star Al Pacino (who plays his father Aldo), The Godfather actor blown away by the 360-degree costume. Leto didn't realize it at the time, but the first step in preparing to play Gucci came 16 years ago on the set of Lonely Hearts, where he spent hours plucking hairs out of his head to make himself bald enough to play the serial killer Raymond Fernandez. It was a "brutal" decision that didn't end up working, he admits, though Leto initially wanted to try again in creating Gucci's hairless dome ("I was going to shave my head"). Practicality stood in the way, so he used a bald cap to complete his metamorphosis into the family outcast who, like him, suffered for his art.

Ridley decided that we didn’t need it and we got rid of it. I mean, I’ve been very lucky, at one point, the script was 150 pages long, which is kind of insane. It got down to 135 by the time we were shooting.

Through it all, Salma Hayek’s naive psychic Pina guides the increasingly distraught queen-bee Patrizia with prophecies about the future, lending the film some of its most hysterical scenes. Leto strayed from movies for nearly six years after Chapter 27, touring with his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, until he read the script for Dallas Buyers Club, which presented another opportunity to disappear—even on set. "They only saw one person there and it certainly wasn't Jared Leto," he recalls of the production, for which he lost 40 pounds and waxed his body, spending time on and off set wearing the same clothes that Rayon—the HIV-positive trans woman he played—would. "I was in a very frail, very vulnerable place."

When you're in a rock band, you sell merch. But, no, I have too much respect for Alessandro and the team at Gucci to ever pretend that I'm a designer so far. House of Gucci is currently available to watch in theaters.

Leto stars in Sony/Marvel’s Morbius next and tells us that Tron 3 is happening, with a script set to be delivered quite soon. Sure, every actor strives and yearns for such high standards, but Leto outstrips many in his transformation into pudgy fashion designer Paolo Gucci in MGM’s Ridley Scott movie House of Gucci, the one Gucci who like Rodney Dangerfield, just couldn’t get respect. When Patrizia gets rejected by shy Maurizio’s traditional and haughty father Rodolfo (Jeremy Irons)—he quietly shames Patrizia’s lack of cultural finesse—she finds a welcome ally in Uncle Aldo (Al Pacino). He is the quality and class-insistent Rodolfo’s calculating brother, with a commercialist attitude that differs from his sibling’s when it comes to reviving Gucci’s flailing image in the ‘70s and rising above the brand’s whispered-about financial hardship. Like the rest of the star-studded cast — Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani, Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci and Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci — Leto lived as much as possible in character during shooting. “We usually apply makeup on set, but Jared wanted us to apply this at a separate location.

I think when people saw the trailer, they weren’t just paying attention to the makeup — they saw his characteristics, which were really believable. Because I’m completely fucking crazy, I suppose. I think to do this, you have to be a little nutty. There are harder jobs in the world than being an actor, but it does have its unique set of pressures — mostly psychological. I wanted to be a visual artist, a painter. I studied visual art and found photography, then film, and I dropped out of school.
